A Fourth of July celebration is a much anticipated annual treat compliments of the Lake Fork Area Chamber of Commerce and Peoples Telephone Cooperative. Each summer visitors and residents alike assemble at Oak Ridge Marina for a festival to celebrate the birthday of America.
The celebration includes an afternoon of fun for everyone - hula-hoop contests, Limbo contests, a balloon toss and a golf cart parade. There is a dance contest for the young and the young at heart and music to entertain everyone.
The food options are also satisfying - snow cones, BBQ ribs, hot dogs, watermelon, and popcorn. Everything you need for a successful patriotic party is at your feet.
One of the most anticipated and entertaining events each year is the golf cart parade where reasonably sane people make their golf carts resemble an alien spacecraft, or a giant largemouth bass, or a fantasy character, or anything that their creative minds can imagine. All decorated and themed carts are paraded before attendees and a panel of judges to have their artwork critiqued.
Awards are presented for the most outstanding designs. Creativity plays an enormous part in the winning model. The contest is open to everyone so why don't you consider it?
Approximately one thousand spectators enjoy the day on the shores of Lake Fork to honor America's Independence. Many are dressed patriotically and display colorful headwear - hats, sparkle headbands, and stars are everywhere.
Visitors, family and friends bring chairs, blankets and coolers to watch the display of fireworks on the shores of Lake Fork. As many as 600 boats observe the bright multi-colored lighted skys from the water.
Spectacular fireworks are the highlight of the evening and they begin as night falls. The fireworks exploding in the sky echo on the water giving spectators on land and on the water an astonishing dual fireworks experience.
Professional technicians and volunteers provide fodder for the oohs and ahhs that are heard all around the lake as the day's festivities come to a close. You are always invited to attend the annual Lake Fork Fourth of July Fireworks and Parade; and bring a friend or two or three.
